In the hustle of everyday life, it’s easy to lose sight of our inner selves. Taking time to expand our consciousness and deepen our spiritual growth is a vital part of self-care and continual self-discovery. Finding the space and time for this can seem daunting, however, I have found solace and inspiration in what I call “SoulFire Journeying.”
SoulFire Journeying is not about escaping reality but rather diving deeper into it. It is a deliberate “time out” for self-exploration. Like tending to a fire that has grown dim, I believe we must stoke the embers of our soul, breathing life through our interests, dreams, and desires.
Even if only for a short while, the first step in SoulFire Journeying is finding a sanctuary for stillness. This could be a quiet corner of your home, a secluded spot in nature, or even a cozy nook in your favorite café. The key is to choose a place where you can be alone with your thoughts, free from distractions. In this space, disconnect from the outside world to turn your focus inward.
Once I’ve settled into my little “sacred corner” of my bedroom, I close my eyes and take a deep breath. As I exhale, I strive to release the tension and worries that have accumulated throughout the day. Sometimes, it takes a few exhales to do this.
Next, set an intention – Is there a question that has been weighing on your mind, a dream you’ve been neglecting, or a passion you’ve let lie dormant? What do you hope to discover or uncover within yourself? Your intention will serve as a guiding star, helping you stay focused and aligned with your true purpose.
With intention in mind, begin reflecting on past experiences. Our pasts hold valuable insights into our present selves, and by examining them with compassion and curiosity, we can gain a deeper understanding of who we are. What lessons have they taught? How have they shaped you?
Sometimes as I delve deeper, I encounter some resistance. I try to embrace these moments as opportunities for healing. Just as a fire burns brighter when it consumes the obstacles in its path, I hope our soul’s fire will shine more brightly as we confront and release the barriers that have held us back.
During your journey, give yourself permission to daydream a little. Allow your imagination to roam freely, and envision a life filled with the pursuits that truly set your soul on fire. This exercise can reignite our sense of purpose and remind us of the unique gifts and talents we possess.
SoulFire Journeying can also involve meditation, creative expression, or the exploration of spiritual practices. Meditation allows you to quiet the mind and connect with your inner wisdom. Creative expression, whether through art, writing, or music, is a powerful way to channel your emotions and explore your inner world. Spiritual practices, such as yoga, mindfulness, or prayer, can deepen your connection to the universe and provide a sense of peace and purpose.
Make SoulFire Journeying a regular part of your self-care routine, whenever you feel disconnected from your inner self. Just as a fire requires fuel to keep burning, our soul requires continuous nourishment and attention.
