I’ve been thinking a lot about self-confidence building this past month and how can I get more. How do I build more? Is it the same as self-worth – is that actually what I’m struggling with?

So once again I went hunting for the terms and deciphering. Self-confidence, self-worth, self-esteem, and self-love are related concepts, but they have distinct meanings it turns out.

Self-confidence

Self-confidenceSelf-confidence refers to the belief in one’s abilities, skills, and competence to successfully accomplish tasks or handle situations. It is the belief in one’s own capabilities and the assurance that one can overcome challenges and achieve goals.

Self-esteem

Self-esteemSelf-esteem encompasses an overall evaluation and perception of one’s self. It involves how individuals feel about themselves, their self-image, and their level of self-acceptance. Self-esteem can be influenced by various factors, such as accomplishments, relationships, and external validation.

Self-love

Self-loveSelf-love is an attitude of caring, acceptance, and kindness towards oneself. It involves practicing self-care, self-compassion, and prioritizing one’s well-being and happiness. Self-love involves treating oneself with respect, setting healthy boundaries, and nurturing one’s physical, emotional, and mental needs.

Self-worth

Self-worthSelf-worth refers to the inherent value and worthiness that individuals attribute to themselves. It is a deep sense of self-acceptance and recognition that one is deserving of love, respect, and happiness simply by being who they are, regardless of external achievements or circumstances.

While these interconnect, they focus on different aspects of our relationship with ourselves. And of course, we want to develop them all for our personal growth and well-being.

So does investing in self-care activities help all of these? Any one of these? The good news is “yes.” Our time spent on self-care activities besides helping us feel better in a general way, help boost these specifically.

Self-care + Self-confidence

Self-confidenceEngaging in self-care activities can help you develop and showcase your skills and abilities. When you prioritize self-care, you invest in activities that nurture your talents, build competence, and provide a sense of accomplishment. This can boost your self-confidence as you see yourself grow and succeed in areas that are important to you.

Self-care + Self-worth

Self-worthSelf-care activities are a tangible way to demonstrate self-value and prioritize your well-being. By engaging in self-care, you send a message to yourself that you are deserving of love, care, and attention. Consistently practicing self-care can help cultivate a deep sense of self-worth and reinforce the belief that you are deserving of a fulfilling and balanced life.

Self-care + Self-esteem

Self-esteemSelf-care activities contribute to positive self-esteem by fostering self-acceptance and self-appreciation. Taking time for self-care allows you to connect with yourself, identify your needs, and provide the nurturing and self-compassion that boosts self-esteem. Engaging in activities that align with your values and bring you joy can reinforce a positive self-image and build self-esteem.

Self-care + Self-love

Self-loveSelf-care is an essential component of self-love. Engaging in activities that prioritize your well-being, happiness, and growth is an act of self-love. By taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally, you demonstrate love, acceptance, and kindness towards yourself. Regular self-care rituals can deepen your connection with yourself and cultivate a strong foundation of self-love.

Learning there is a connection, a need, between self-care and these aspects of myself, I hope gives me more incentive to take of myself and “indulging” in tending to me.

I want myself to know that I do truly value my overall well-being and that I deserve to prioritize myself.

Final Thought

  • Self-esteem encompasses overall self-evaluation
  • Self-confidence relates to belief in one’s abilities
  • Self-worth emphasizes intrinsic value
  • Self-love centers on nurturing and caring for oneself.

Cultivating these aspects will contribute to a healthier self-perception, increased resilience, and a greater sense of fulfillment and happiness in our lives. And by nurturing ourselves through self-care, we contribute positively to all of these.

MANTRA: I deserve to prioritize myself.
